Normandy Meet
Reminder our warm-ups will be at 6-6:20pm. The seniors will lead a cheer at the end of warm ups for all FH swimmers. This will most likely be our longest meet of the year. . Normandy is the biggest club and we are probably second. Both clubs have a plethora of littles (10 and younger) that will be swimming.
Volunteers - We will have a volunteer check in table/tent. Timers need to check in with me to get watches and there is a timers meet at 6pm for all timers (1st and 2nd half). We still need some help on the following:
- 8 and under boys - 2nd half
- 9-10 boys - 1st half
- Clerk of Course - 2nd half
The 2nd Half workers will start on event #33. However, age group parents should switch earlier after event (26) because the 8 and under back stroke will be the first event up for 2nd half.
Team Area - We will have signs (maybe tents) for the younger age groups (8 and under and 9-10, boys and girls). Feel free to sit around these areas, bring blankets, so your child stays in the area. It is important for your child to stay in these areas so our age group parents can find them. The meet will go quick.
For those that have kids in 11 and above, the announce will call out events in order 1-82. If your child is these events, head over to the clerk of course.
We will have a print out of the events listed by gender and in alphabetical order in our team area. This will be on one of the fences. This is where your child will need to write their events down (E, H, L) on their arm. Also, make sure to write their name on their back (shoulder) so we know who they are if they 10 and under.
We will have tatoos for the kids to put on for this meet which will be in the team area. We also have sharpies for the events to write on as well to be creative.
The Meet
To set expectations for those that have never been, these meets are the definition of controlled chaos. When your child is set to swim, feel free to find a spot by the pool area to view. There will be spots by the baby pool fence and on the side of the diving well. You cannot be behind the blocks unless you are a timer, official, coach or clerk of course.
When they are done, please move away from the pool so others can watch. There will be a lot of folks around the pools - coaches, timers and officials. Please do not interfere with them. They all have a job to do and we need them to do it.
When finished with an event, the kids will go to the coaches for candy. Once they are done, please have them come back to the team areas. The next event will be up quickly.
What to bring
For the swimmers - sunscreen, suit (does not have to be FH), cap (has to be FH or blank), towels (plural), sweatpants/sweatshirt, goggles, snacks, water/drink, blanket, crafts to pass the time. You will be shocked even if it is 80 outside how cold swimmers get towards the end of the night. Mark everything with your family name or individual name.
For parents, water/drinks - no glass (none, ziltch, nada), snacks and chairs (there will be no seating for families). Concessions at Normandy is cash or card. They usually have a grill going for the meet.
All - Bug spray. Where we are sitting is in a shaded area, but I'm not sure of the mosquito situation. Better to be prepared than not.
Parking
If you are running late, you can drop your swimmer off at the club's main entrance. The overflow lot is a commercial business. However, Normandy should be parking there so it may be busy. From McCabe's its a short walk to the back entrance which is also where our team area is.
Normandy has asked us to not park on the grass in the parking lot.
Illnesses/Late Scratches
For any swimmers that are not able to make the meet (sickness or car trouble), please email Coach Meghan directly - [email protected]. It happens and if it does and we can change relays before the meets, we will.
When your swimmer is done with their events (and you are not a 2nd half worker <-very important), feel free to leave. 99% of the swimmers are swimming at least 2 events.
If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask. We are all here to help so if you have questions, a lot of our families are pros when it comes to meet.
To all - a positive attitude and have a fun time. All of us represent Forest Hills so please be respectful and clean up after ourselves.
Go Sharks!
